Being on the other side of the camera, UGH!!

Similar to many dad's, I was not overly excited about being photographed however, I was dying for updated pictures of my family! A photographer friend whom I love and admire, Tammy Grady,  was shooting a wedding in Byron so we decided to do a family photo session swap!

Having a toddler, I have billions of photographs of him but none of us all together. As you know reading this, I advocate the value of the professional family photograph and here was the moment to live into my mission, regardless of my comfort or pride. And I was not even going to ask my partner for fear I would get a similar vibe. After all, I was the one to cheerlead this one!

The morning of the shoot I was offering my partner 'outs' even hoping Tammie, was too tired, or not up for it, alas, she was in! So, I coordinated our outfits and off we went although I knew my partner was looking forward to it even less than i was.

I arrived at Broken Head beach, in Bryon Bay, with props for Brays, extra clothes, and a bottle of Thank You Champagne. The same things that so many clients bring which never get used! I had become my client! I began to micro manage our location, exact shooting spots and time, OMG!!!

Tammie arrived and I was conscious about the falling sun so I rush us to where I shoot my first location in the shade until the sun falls behind the hill. Tammie entertained my suggestion and then quickly she spotted additional spots in the same location and I immediately felt at ease and BACKED OFF, well almost.

By the time we reached the beach the sun was reflecting and the pink waves were glistening, it was the perfect setting! I then let her direct and trusted her. Gorgeously and effortlessly she let us giggle and play, all the while she was snapping away capturing the glory and essence of my beautiful family. and check this out!

While sipping on a champagne afterwards with Tammie and my family, I was filled with the essence of fun, contentedness and peace. Without even seeing the images, I knew that Tammie captured the fun my family embodies which is exactly what I dreamed of. She sensed we did not want proper sit down posed shots, rather playing and having fun with a touch of direction. She was absolutely spot on!
